If you have deleted all the photographs from your iPod Touch / iPhone then you can re-enable your camera and you should be able to sync with iTunes again. However, if you take or save any more photographs to your iPod Touch or iPhone, you will have the same blue-screen issues. I'd highly recommend that you update your camera drivers so that you don't have any future issues with syncing your device.

For me, the problem was solved by removing a photo created by a stupid free application (iSteam). You can delete those pictures directly form your ipod.
(it seems like a strange problem. It seems that the fact of adding a picture by internet or appilications directly with the ipod, constrains the computer to think the ipod is a camera, and then it crashes.)

My Acer notebook exhibited the same reaction when I plugged in my Touch. I uninstalled the Orbicam (Acer's webcam) driver. This fixed the problem. Still haven't got a driver though!

Olly, it's most likely to be an issue with a driver on your system relating to a USB port. Maybe you don't have a camera connected, but do you have a camera driver installed? Check for this using the device manager. Have you tried removing the saved photos from your iPod / iPhone before connecting it?

Thanks for the useful piece. I'm getting exactly the same blue screen issues when I try to update to the latest iPod software. Except that I don't have a webcam of any kind. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Well, I managed to suffer yet another Blue Screen Of Death when trying to update my iPod to the latest 2.1 software. I did some further digging and found out the following:

This problem is caused by a driver issue - often Logitech Webcam drivers. It is a problem if you have saved photos to your iPod Touch or iPhone from web browsing or from an email for example. A "quick and dirty fix" is therefore to delete all the images you've chosen to save to your photo library on the device. I managed to fix it properly:

Have a look at the links below for more advice, but you need to update your webcam driver software. Mine is a Dell Notebook, and I was able to find the software download I needed here. Apple also has (eventually) posted some help on the issue:

Hope this helps! :)
